Payment

$50 - Hour

$30 - Half Hour

Payments for lessons are due at the first lesson of each month. This will be by cash, check/e-check, Zelle, Cashapp or Venmo. Fluctuations in monthly tuition is due to how many lessons are scheduled per month. Please check the studio's Google Drive for available lessons and amount owed.

 

Parental Involvement

For students under 10 years of age, a parent or guardian is expected to attend every lesson and supervise daily practice. I'd prefer to gradually phase out parental lesson attendance by age 13 to foster a sense of ownership towards student progress. However, parents are always welcome in lessons.

Arrival

Plan to arrive a few minutes before your lesson so your can put together your affects so we can start immediately. Lesson times will not be extended for students who arrive late.

 

Scheduling

Students are to come on a weekly basis for development to occur. A studio Google doc Calendar will be the main way to schedule lesson lessons and see studio events. All students will have access to view and edit this Calendar. If a student has a scheduling conflict with an event on the calendar and provide a 24 hour notice, it will be rescheduled. The exception to this is recitals, which will be planned at the beginning of the year to ensure availability. 

 

Cancellation Policy

Your lesson is reserved exclusively for you. Canceled lessons will not be refunded unless they were cancelled due to documented illness, a family emergency, or two-week notice is provided. Time for make-up lessons is extremely limited, and make-up lessons cannot be guaranteed. Each student will be allowed a maximum of three make-up lessons a semester if the schedule permits. After three make-up lessons, further canceled lessons will be considered forfeit. This policy is out of consideration to everyone taking lessons, to allow all students an equal chance to make up lessons when needed. Make up lessons will be scheduled during regular teaching hours as openings become available. Please notify me of absences as far in advance as possible; this will help you and others receive a make-up lesson. Lessons missed without prior notice will not be made up. Scheduled make-up lessons will not be rescheduled for any reason.

- Assigned music

- A pencil.

Practice Journal

In order for lesson time to be effective, daily practice on the students' part is necessary.  Each student will being a practice journal to log their progress. A detailed practice journal with an entry for each practice session during the week.

The practice journal should include (at the very least):

• What was practiced, and how (practice techniques: altered rhythms, additive practice, etc.)

• Specific technique/exercise

• Etudes

• Repertoire (solo, quartet, band, jazz ensemble, etc.)

• Other (transcriptions, gig music, etc.)

• Duration of activity

• Tempos (specifically for technical exercises, etudes, and repertoire)

• List/notes on reference recordings (repertoire, artists, observations, etc.)

• Research and background information on repertoire and musical artists This will be brought to each lesson.
